AM – Future Sons & Daughters – Album Review
Written By Lancifer
Score 7.7/10
AM’s new album Future Sons & Daughters is what the band would describe as being “Indie Lounge Pop”. I like to think it has the potential of being the indie lounge pop to mark the rebirth of the sexy pop music with a taste of funk that American artists seem to have lost over the years. Future Sons & Daughters lacks the disposable sound that so many pop artists cling to, but accomplishes the feat of maintaining the quality that has staying power. Managing to land tracks on several television shows and movies, AM is already receiving recognition that I’m sure will just continue on to wider audiences.
The soothing vocals of AM remind me those similar to Thomas Mars of Phoenix, back before they lost their smooth soulful sound. Between the retro guitar sound of Californian surfer films, and dream inducing chimes, there’s something just about anyone can cling to, from the instrumental Jorge Ben, to the more mainstream prone tracks like A Complete Unknown, and my personal favorite Grand Opinion. To not have a healthy appreciation for AM’s Future Sons & Daughters would be denying a healthy appreciation for good music overall. If my word isn’t enough for you, AM has been handpicked by French electro pop duo Air to join them on their 2010 US/Canada tour. If that’s not enough convincing power, I don’t know what is.
