Shark Week is an engrossing time of life for most people with eyeballs.  The depth of fear exhumed during the weeks programming is beyond that of any horror film fest.  This fear is real, and I feel it more than most.  Growing up on an ocean coast and maintaining a similar geographic location has been a life-long endeavor.  I am constantly in or around the sea.  Hence, a very sincere fear of sharks and their cursed yet tempting to watch Shark Week.  As many people are scared to be eaten by the shark, I have a very real and larger fear.  SHARK RAPE!!!  Not just any rape either.  Double rape, because according to Shark Week, male sharks have not one weapon to perform this dastardly deed, but two.  Yup, double donged sharks!!!  While this may not be the scientific term (claspers if you must know), this is a real threat in my head.

Now what does this have to do at all with Box Elders you may ask?  Well, before you look at the following photo gallery, let me ask you, what is more awe-inspiring than a wailing guitar?  Two dudes with wailing guitars back to back you may respond with.  Close, but no cigar.  TWO DUDES WITH TWO DOUBLE GUITARS!!!  If you said that, than you are radical.  Like Brody from Point Break radical!  Like Box Elders radical!!

And radical they are!  The sound these three make is somewhat akin to 60′s era lo-fi garage rock with a sing-song bounce going between Ohio brothers Clayton and Jeremiah McIntyre.   The keyboards organ-like tunes bounce around as jauntily as drummer/keyboardist Dave Goldberg who is a certified wild man back there.  The small yet bitchin crowd at Bar Pink was held enthralled by the 3-piece.  Homeless wanderers entered the bar and started bouncing their heads to each of the short, catchy songs.    I am sure that some of them had flash backs to their Sadie Hawkins dances where they may have started down the road of bad life decisions that ended up in the greatest decision of their lives, seeing Box Elders live.  All present were jumping and twisting to such songs as “Jackie Wood” and “Hole In My Head”.  The classic sound and positive vibe that Box Elders exude is highly contagious.  I’m smiling writing now as I recall that night, and no dumb deep sea predator is going to wipe that stupid grin off my face for a while.
