Top 100 Most Anticipated Album Releases of 2011

-
If 2010 is any indication of what we can expect from bands this coming year then by all means get excited, because last year was the best batch of releases of the past decade. • How is Coldplay on this list and Blink-182 isn’t? This is bull.

  • Kyle Ellis

I agree. How is every site missing the new Blink-182 Album? Sold out arenas don’t lie. This is a big release, indeed.

  • you forgot fiona apple!!!!!

  • Really? Fiona Apple has a new album coming out? I can’t wait for that. Thanks for the update!

  • F*** You F******

Blink 182 is the biggest pile of bullshit this side of Bullshit County.

  • Haha, someone got tired of linking to the bands. Only 40? Why not the other 60, too?

  • It just never got finished. Thanks for the reminder. Sad that we needed to be reminded.

  • Where did you hear about new the good the bad and the queen. I follow albarn pretty closely and loved their first album but haven’t heard about them since. Are you maybe talking about the collaboration with Tony Allen and flea or did I miss it

  • CAN’T FREAKIN’ WAIT FOR THE NEW STROKES‘ RECORD!!!!!!!!!!!!

and also White Lies’, Lykke Li’s, The Kills’, Coldplay’s, Radiohead’s, etc.! :D

  • Don’t forget Starfucker and Arctic Monkeys!
Also the new Kills album is titled Blood Pressures.

  • Those two should be way up on the list actually. Good call on those. There should be lots of great albums coming out this year.

  • New Starfucker album?!
I had no idea, I’m so excited for that. The PB&J album should be good, too. The Fujiya and Miyagi album will be amazing, hopefully.

  • 1 Fiona Apple
    2 Coldplay
    3 Paul Melia
    4 Fleet Foxes
    5 The Streets

  • Arctic Monkeys, Amy Ray, PJ Harvey

    Incubus as well.

  • And where is Lady Gaga with her new album Born This Way??

  • I love Patrick Wolf as well, but you’ve listed him twice.
Personally, I’m dying for ONE new Aphex release, of the six albums he’s supposedly working on.

  • Nice list. Really waiting for Radiohead new stuff.

  • Kaki King and Fiona, most def.

  • They Call Me Adrian

    Good list.
But you’re missing THE HEAD AND THE HEART, signed to sub pop last year in december – and they’re the real deal. Album Title (as yet TBD).

  • Doesn't matter

    Seriously where is blink at?

  • 1. LOW ANTHEM
    2. BEN HARPER AND RELENTLESS 7

  • They Call Me Adrian

Howz about getting an update that tells us when each album has been released, ’cause there’s quite a lot to remember here. For example, The King is Dead by The Decemberists is out.

  • Great suggestion! We’ll put one together, and have it up next week. Thanks.

  • Dang brotha, you did it up! We took the easy way out and did 11 in 2011 we can’t wait to hear. http://www.merchantsofrock.com/11-anticipated-albums-2011/ . We overlap quite a bit at least. Keep up the good work!

  • Doesn’t death cab for cutie have a new album coming out?

  • Alex Ebert – Alexander

  • Radiohead – The King Of Limbs. Which may I add is brilliant.

Ahhh and Coldplay to release a new album soon? very exciting! ;-)

They should also add The Red Chili Pepper’s to the list as well. They aren’t indie but they’re wonderful so..

  • Rhabdovirus

    Disappointed.

    Greenhorse @ The Satellite, 5/11

Greenhorse’s performance at the Satellite was more than just a typical opening band on a Friday night. Sharing their home state with popular headliners Gauntlet Hair (its Wyoming), Greenhorse also recognized how monumental this moment really is: “It’s kind of exciting because when we first moved to L.A, we came to Spaceland and we were like, ‘I hope we get to play here someday.” The trio played to a dark room, each member merely lit by their own spotlight, which [...]

Choir of Young Believers at SPOT Festival 2012

Choir of Young Believers are a band whose music perfectly emulates their name. With an ecclesiastic, reverberant sound quite akin to that of Fleet Foxes, this seven-piece Danish band not only possess a musicality that is powerful and elating, they are also captivating live and have a stage presence that is transfixing. CYOB’s show at SPOT Festival was deep and dynamic, possessing a memorably surreal energy. Their music resonates within every cell of the body, stirring emotions that you never [...]

Thee Attacks @ SPOT Festival 2012

Thee Attacks were an unexpected highlight at this years SPOT festival with their seductively wild performance that shook the Voxhall stage to it’s core and stripped the walls bare until all that remained was a static sexual charge that was impossible to ignore. It was not their first time at SPOT festival, nor were they new to the stage in any way- having performed at numerous locations around the world in the last few years, including this years SXSW. Yet the [...]

    SPOT Festival 2012, Århus Denmark

It was a Scandinavian Spring morning as I boarded the train from Copenhagen to Århus, Denmark’s smaller, quieter version of Copenhagen, and the home of SPOT festival. Being my first time at SPOT as well as my first time in Århus, my expectations were built solely on the good things I had heard through the grapevine about the two-day musical whirlwind, dedicated to showcasing emerging Danish and Nordic bands. My first thought on arrival was ‘where are all the people?’ [...]

The Mowgli’s CD Release Party @ The Roxy

In a word, The Mowgli’s are happy. The crowd that follows The Mowgli’s is quite a diverse one, not so surprising given their demeanor – filling The Roxy with old and young, long skirts, short shorts and even studded belts. Turns out love & happiness arent’t just reserved for flower power! The benefits of releasing an album before throwing the party are that the audience already owns, loves and knows every word so this crowd didn’t miss a beat once [...]

Boz Boorer – Slippery Forces (video)

If the name Boz Boorer doesn’t ring any bells, then you’re probably not alone. Quite possibly more commonly known as Morrissey’s guitarist,Boorer presents you with a tune that demonstrates that he is capable of and on his way to etching a name for himself in the indie music scene.
