TEASER: Smoke Season @ The Troubadour Saturday, 5/25

Smoke Season i.e. Jason Rosen (ex-Honor Society, Blue Check on Twitter, no biggie) and Gabrielle Wortman (Aeolian-leaning soulful tenor /multi-instrumentalist of Temp3st) haven’t officially played a show together. But that’s cool. They’re set to sell out their first show tomorrow, at The Troubadour, like you do. I stopped by to see them rehearse last night at their band space in DTLA, east of the LA River. Wortman and Rosen share vocal duties, doubling each other during subdued moments, creating an [...]

    MP3 Stream: Starlight Girls – ’7×3′

Brooklyn-based Starlight Girls premiered their latest track via SPIN today. The first single since their self-titled EP release in early 2012, “7×3″ deviates a bit from their organ-filled early 1900′s buoyancy but doesn’t lose their signature punctilious pace. Produced by Xiu Xiu frontman, Jamie Stewart, the track directs more towards avant-rock skirting a Trent Reznor eeriness in the fuzzy background fill and bass line. Frigid vocals aid the foreboding instrumental loops and yet I am never afraid, just eager to [...]
