MP3 Stream: Local Natives Return With “Breakers”

LocalNatives MP3 Stream: Local Natives Return With Breakers

After their explosive breakthrough in 2010, Local Natives have finally come out of the woodwork and announced not only a globetrotting tour but a new LP, Hummingbirds. Recorded in the comforts of The National’s, Aaron Dessner, home studio in New York, “Breakers” is the first single from the LP, scheduled for release on January 29, 2013. Now one man short (after splitting with bassist, Andy Hamm, in 2011), Local Natives are admittedly more emotional than in their debut, Gorilla Manor, an album that characterized the group as a sanguine and encouraging burst of harmonies and upbeat tempos. “Breakers” is somewhat erratic with pulsing waves of quintessential harmonies crashing into instrumentals. The track seems to merely skim the surface of the profound direction the quartet is going with Hummingbirds.

Local Natives are playing The Satellite in Los Angeles tonite (10/23) with Superhumanoids. Lucky enough to be in LA? Tickets are HERE.

    MP3 Stream: Starlight Girls – ’7×3′

Brooklyn-based Starlight Girls premiered their latest track via SPIN today. The first single since their self-titled EP release in early 2012, “7×3″ deviates a bit from their organ-filled early 1900′s buoyancy but doesn’t lose their signature punctilious pace. Produced by Xiu Xiu frontman, Jamie Stewart, the track directs more towards avant-rock skirting a Trent Reznor eeriness in the fuzzy background fill and bass line. Frigid vocals aid the foreboding instrumental loops and yet I am never afraid, just eager to [...]
