For the first time in six years, Lou Barlow released a new album, Brace The Wave, earlier this month, featuring acclaimed single “Wave.” Apparently being a prominent member of Sebadoh, Dinosaur Jr. and Folk Implosion still left him time to find his own solo notes, mostly ukulele based. As you’d expect, Barlow is folk-tinged and stripped-down in his tales of transition, introspection and even rebirth as he goes back to the basics. The fun fact is Barlow considers this a throwback to his first song in 1983, “Lou’s Anxiety Song.” Over the years, the ups and downs have led him back to his home state of Massachusetts, and back to the restlessness, considering this album “Lou’s Anxiety Song(s)” 2015. Nevertheless, Barlow has been repairing old relationships lately, getting Dinosaur Jr. back together and releasing the first Sebadoh album in 14 years but we’re really hoping this desert appearance will just be Barlow playing all the instruments himself.
