A hollow space has existed in the stage-presence of Danish electro-pop band When Saints Go Machine recently. After taking a step out of the limelight in order to dedicate their time to the production of their...
If the Smith Westerns 2009 debut had any shortcomings they were always explained with one remark: “They recorded it in high school.” The exuberant, garage glam on Smith Westerns was far from the finished project, as most records in that vein seem to be—they certainly had room to grow. Nonetheless their refreshing slant on “garage rock” earned them plaudits and recognition beyond the blogosphere.
Pete and The Pirates have long been IRR favorites - 2008's Little Death made many of our writer's best of lists. And, although their 2011 follow up doesn't drop until May, the Pirates are already sharing one of the tracks of the yet-to-be-named LP.
This Brooklyn based trio and their sophomore album 'The Other Side of Zero' is an exceptional follow up to their first effort, Taller Children. The new batch of songs hum along gently, most of which are heart wrenching numbers, while other tunes would make even the loftiest of pop princess' nod their head in respect.
Portland, Oregon's Y La Bamba’s fair weathered new album Lupon is easily one of the heavier folk albums you will hear this year. The lyrics by lead singer Luzelena Mendoza are a huge highlight of the album, as they are ripe with meaning.
Pete Yorn's new recording, produced by Pixies own Frank Black, is purposefully raw this go round. It's also his 3rd album in the last year and a half - the man is on fire.
"Everything Is New" is as eloquent as a Florentine ballad brought forth from loves desire. Indeed it’s making my love for Antony feel just like the first time. This honeymoon stage leads to the flowering arrangements of “The Great White Open”. Those tender, soft, plucking, textures heard from finely recorded acoustics make hearts pander for more, MORE, while Antony’s vocals quiver like a blind man in unadulterated ecstasy and his whole being wraps around lyrics like he owns them (which he probably put a copyright on, so by all means he does own them).

England's traveling troubadour Johnny Flynn has dropped the Sussex Witt on his new album. Is this sad, or happy? You be the judge and give his new song "Kentucky Pill" a listen and download. Been Listening is released October 26th in North America via Transgressive/Thirty Tigers.
Best New Music/MP3 Download: "Waterfall" is from The Fresh & Onlys upcoming album Play It Strange. The band must be addicted to writing songs because this will be their third full length in only two years. "Waterfall" is a toothsome delicacy that we've been waiting to sample for some time now. Mmm, get your fix below.
White Mystery is basically Miss Alex White and The Red Orchestra with a shorter name and less band members. Two, to be exact. And to be even more precise, (Miss) Alex White and brother (Mister) Francis. On their self-titled debut the Windy City relatives put up walls of sound that are louder, faster, heavy, fuzzier, and altogether dirtier than anything we've heard from the Red Orchestra.
Enjoy some new tunes by Love of Everything!
Not that you don't already know who Minus The Bear are, and not that their label didn't pay us to put this up, but it's more like who cares if they aren't new because they are fresh and have always kicked my ass, and your ass, and everyone else's asses with their music.
