Guitar god/Dinosaur Jr. front-man, J.Mascis had around 60 Facebook friends when he asked us to be his friend a week or so ago. This might not strike you as weird but it sure did us. Why would he ask us to be friends? Don’t get me wrong, it’s quite flattering and we love the man and his band. But he hasn’t even asked Pitchfork or Stereogum. Here are some ideas on why:
1. We have the word Indie in our name.
2. We stole one of our logos from a classic skateboard icon (the mouth screaming thing, and we all know J. loves skateboarding)
3. He truly wants to be friends?
4. He actually reads our website – nah.
5. Most likely, his hand accidentally clicked his mouse when scrolling over our logo and made a mistake.
Maybe we’ll try to contact J. Mascis and ask him about it? As for us, well we think if J. Mascis wants to be friends with us then you should too.

Norwegian electro-pop band Casiokids is excited to debut a brand new video for their single, “Finn Bikkjen!,” Directed by Greg Taylor, the video focuses on the protagonist’s search for his dog within a dream (not a far stretch, considering “Finn Bikkjen!” is Norwegian for “Find Dogs!”).
The single itself is currently available for mp3 download, and is off of their forthcoming US debut Topp stemning på lokal bar, coming out June 8 on Polyvinyl.
Set in a sunny corner of the woods, the “Finn Bikkjen!” video features an fuzzy-eared, neon hoodie-clad pack of dancers, with face and hands obscured by glittering scarves. Equal parts eerie and joyous, organic and otherworldly, the video aptly reflects Casiokids’ unique sound. Discovered by former tour mates (and now labelmates) of Montreal, Casiokids put on a theatrical live show, not unlike the video, incorporating a blend of shadow puppets, video projections and animal costumes.
Casiokids is bringing their live show to festivals throughout Europe during the summer, and will return to the US for a national tour in August. Dates to be announced shortly.

“Sweet baby Jesus” is a term that comes a callin’ when I think about the swedish musical delight known as Fredrik. This tasty two-some released their latest opus of an album Trilogi and it’s just about perfect- is there even such a thing? I’m not bullshitting you, why would I? Recently the guys performed “Milo” for the guys at Permanent Records, in Green Point, Brooklyn, NYC. Camera by Bryan Keever.

Although Benni Hemm Hemm’s live shows have been known to incorporate up to 35 performers at once, Benni discovered a new affinity for home recording, choosing to strip things down for this new release, rather than make his usual pilgrimage to Sundlaugin, the Sigur Rós studio. With Benni playing the majority of the instruments, in addition to the contributions of Emily Scott (double bass) and Peter Liddle (trumpet & alto-horn), the Retaliate EP, is a collection of five songs which feature knives, gold, lazy pioneers, confident talibans, blood thirsty vampires, Stan-Stan-the-caretaker-man and last but not least blood, lots of blood.
Benni Hemm Hemm will tour Europe this spring and summer, with plans to hit the US later this year.

Haven’t heard the rest of the new album from Born Ruffians, but judging from “What To Say” sounds like, the band is going for less party and more mature kind of sound. Not sure how to feel about that. The song is great, and the video trips me out so I guess I don’t mind.

Have you ever wondered, like we have, what a day with Ronald McDonald would be like? Best Coast has taken our daydreams away and replaced them with a dream come true. It’s Ronald time.
