Velvet Lounge in Washington DC was a new location to see a show for me. It was dark, cramped, and tucked away in the upper floor of a bar, like many of the local venues in DC. Giving the venue a face lift wouldn’t cost a too awful lot, and would really do wonders for the place. Or they could just bring Savoir Adore in each night to brighten the place up, because that is just what happened as they started off their tour in DC tonight.
For something they (Deidre Muro and Paul Hammer) claim to be an accident, Savoir Adore is one of those necessary accidents, which resulted in a great discovery. The soft and addicting voice of Muro, combined with the highly energetic Hammer, accompanied by other band mates seems to be the perfect equation for the above mentioned accident. Savoir Adore blends catchy, but not overdone pop, with an indie taste that makes you want to get up and move to the beat, or at the very least sing along.
Staying true to their studio recorded sound, and that sound being what I would classify as a ‘must hear’, it was a pleasant surprise to hear that the live talent even surpassed that of the studio quality. Playing a selection from their recently released LP, and even a favorite of mine, Transylvania Candy Patrol, Savoir Adore played a show that was enjoyed by all in attendance. The show was by no means a large-scale performance, but with the music style of Savoir Adore, it would have only distracted from the real reason people were there. This is the type of group that I’m excited to be able to follow, because I’m sure there are great things to come in the future for the band. It’s hard not to get excited for a band that is able to share a ray of sunshine with the push of the play button.
